How To: Make a breakable baseball bat movie prop

Make a breakable baseball bat movie prop

There are plenty of films out there with baseball bats, but if you want your bat to explode on impact, you'll have to make it yourself. A smashable baseball bat is perfect for any gangster flick or sports movie. Watch this video tutorial to learn how to make a breakable baseball bat movie prop.

The first step in this project is to take a big long sheet of styrofoam and trace the basic shape of a baseball bat, using pencil. Then, cut out the first shape, trace it and cut it out. Repeat this process and you should have 3 cutouts of the bat shape. Once you have all three cut outs, glue them with lots of Mod Podge in-between the layers. Don't use hot glue, otherwise, your bat will be very unstable.

After the glue is dry, take sandpaper and sand down the corners into a round shape. What we're basically doing is making a square shape round. We do this by just sanding down to make the bat a cylinder shape. After you have everything sanded and the bat nice and round, take Mod Podge and seal the styrofoam. After the Mod Podge is dry, paint the bat white, then let it dry, then, paint the bat a light brown. When the light brown paint is still wet, mix in some lines of dark brown paint. This will give it a realistic wood look.

After the paint is dry, paint on a final layer of Mod Podge and let dry. For the bottom of the bat, use an old wheel, painted light brown and just hot glued on. After that, you are done!
